After the rain

Not much to report this week. The weather has been atrocious so the gardening has come to a bit of a standstill although l did manage to get a few more seed trays done and bought some Lavender and Lobelia 'Queen Victoria' at the weekend.

We've had a few spells of sunshine between the downpours where l managed to get outside and snap some photographs. I love the smell of the damp earth after the rain, the colours in the garden seem so much richer and the droplets of water on the Alchemilla (Lady's Mantle) bead and sparkle like tiny reflecting worlds.

It was Gerald's birthday on Saturday so we took the ferry and headed over to a wee shop in Glasgow called, Glenbrew – a little Aladdin's cave packed full of all types of wine/beer making supplies. Hubby got completely kitted out- buckets, airlocks, Hydrometer, thermometer, syphon tubing, sterilising and neutralizer solutions, bungs and corks! That's all l can remember for the now anyway. At home we've got quite a few demijohns in the shed so it's just a matter of getting them cleaned out and we'll be ready to go. He also got a Blackberry phone so has been as happy as a pig with Truffles!

I am so pleased to hear that Merle from Merle's third try is out of the hospital after a serious blood infection that went from bad to worse but this lovely lady managed to fight the odds and has pulled back through – delighted to see her blogging again!!! Another dear friend, Connie from It's a Doggy Dog World has had knee surgery again and so l am wishing her all the best for a speedy recovery.

I've had a few visits to the Doctor myself this past week and am now waiting on a date to take a trip across the water to the bigger hospital for a biopsy- another story but as you can imagine this has destroyed my blogging muse of late, hence the short break away. I'm not going to worry about anything though until there is something to worry about and l'm hoping there won't be.

So, no loitering about and as it was raining l used the time to work indoors thrashing my way through the built up clutter, clothes and toys outgrown, gadgets unused, etc. I have amassed quite the pile of boxes already in the hall by the front door – now we're just waiting on a good day to join in the car boot sale and get rid of the lot! My daughter also has stuff to sell so we're going to do this sale together. The house is starting to feel a bit haphazard between the boxes by the door, seed trays lining the windowsills, winemaking equipment in the kitchen. Just add shopping to that, laundry or lego and it quickly builds to a chaotic crescendo!

I am so missing all that good weather we had last month.

I'm up late tonight so l'm going to post this quickly and get to bed – will post some photos tomorrow.

Now that explains why you're MIA from the blogworld. I hope all will go well. One thing I like is the garage sale I always hear about in overseas..it's not something we do hear and it will be good if we can do that I think..to think of the baby stuffs I still have gathering dust here when somebody else might be needing them..Hugs to you Sarah; I wish all our friends well too.

Hello dear Sarah, so good to see a post from you and thank you so much for also leaving such a warm and caring comment on my blog. It certainly has been rough going with the sinus and ear infections, as well as a nagging cough but considering what some people are going through, I'm not going to complain anymore:-)

We're getting plenty of sunshine these days but the temperatures have been chilly. It's supposed to start warming up by tomorrow...woohoo! lol I haven't been able to do anything with my faerie garden so hopefully I can get at it soon. Not really safe to plant anything until at least the first week of June.

Happy belated Birthday to Gerald:-) Sounds like he had a really fun day of shopping. Is it beer or wine that he'll be making? My dad used to make choke cherry wine as well as dandelion wine. When he passed away there was only 1 bottle left and mom gave it to my husband. One night he and a friend from across the street got into it and it sure was powerful, they had quite the hangover the next day! lol I didn't drink wine at the time, now I'll have the odd glass of white wine:-)

Such wonderful news about Merle being home again, I have so much catching up to do since I didn't visit any blogs for over a week. I'm hoping that Connie's knee surgery works this time, the first time it never recovered the way it should have.

The very best of luck with the biopsy, my friend. I know how nerve wracking it is to wait for a result but I'm praying that you will have good news!!! Sending you big hugs. xoxo

Our weather sounds much like yours with a few spells of sunshine between the rainy days. Last week was beautiful, but here we are back to clouds, rain and cool temps this week.
Happy belated birthday to your hubby. What nice birthday presents! May he make some delightful wines :)
My hubby's is coming up this Saturday. We appreciate your good wishes. His recovery is much slower than we'd like but we're thankful for each little bit of progress.
I pray your biopsy will have good results, dear Sarah. Life is full of ups and downs, isn't it?
I know what you mean about the chaotic crescendo. It can happen so fast, especially at this time of year. At least the lack of good weather lets us get some cleanup done.
When the sun returns our gardens will be calling :)
Sounds like you had a lovely trip to Cornwall to see your Dad. You have such fascinating history in Scotland, with wonderful old buildings and historical sights.

Dear Sarah ~~ I have caught up on your posts and we don't always appreciate the beauty around us - we just go go go and ot notice. I learned that poem at school MANY yrs ago What if we have no time to stare. It is a good one. Good luck with the wine making, and all the very best for the biopsy - I pray it will be nothing. Thank you so much for the mention in your blog and for the many lovely comments on Peter's updates and for the
waving frantically over the ocean.
Peter lives about 1000 miles from me in Queensland but we are very close. I hope his Bells Palsy soon passes as the right side of his face is paralysed and he has trouble eating and drinking. It was
great to get home at last after 4 weeks plus. I was so sick for half of that and then Rehab. So glad to be better and back with my dear blogging friends who mean so much to me. I thank you most sincerely for your caring and concern, love
ad prayers dear friend. Much Love, Merle.
