A last wave to the QE2

This piece of history left the Clyde this evening.

Wee 'S' and l rushed out to see it sail by as did most other people from the town including my mother and brother.
The QE2 is a tribute to Scottish boat building – one of Britain’s best.

I was still living in San Francisco when the QE II docked there years ago

We went down at night to see it. It was one of the most breathtaking sights. Absolutely lovely.

When my Dad sailed to England during the War he rode one way on the Queen Elizabeth and the other way on the Queen Mary. I'm not sure if it was QEI or QEII?? But years ago after the Queen Mary had been docked in Long Beach, California, I went to visit it while vacationing down there. How strange to be walking the same decks of a ship my Dad had walked in War time! I bet it was a thrilling sight for all of you to bid QEII farewell!

We were just looking at a cruise, where one portion would be on the QEII. She's a bit pricey for us, but one of the greats!

My friends, who live at Kilmacolm were there too to watch. And I love Loch Fyne (especially the place where you buy salmon and have breakfast!).... we stop there on the way to Kennacraig to get the ferry to Jura, where other friends have a home. You live in a glorious part of the world.

Dear Horizon.....

What a proud and fitting tribute to the Scottish boat builders. Indeed one of Britain’s best. I watched a rerun of her lunch by Queen Elizabeth 2.... goodness those where the days!!! Lucky you, managing to get a glimpse of this great lady sail by. How far from the coat are you?

Thank you for your recent comments Horizon. Do please share the poem with ‘M’ I wish her well as she embarks on her first year. A great career, you certainly have to be a special person to follow this vocation. You must be very proud of her, as I am of my own daughter.

Hope you have a good weekend and the weather is favourable. Its rained heavily this morning here in Wales, but now the sun shines and it is promised to be better tomorrow too. Luv - Marion

Some people from work were leaving early to drive over to Dunoon to see her sail by - Cinderella here couldn't go...sigh. Then today people were in and out who'd been to see and one lady who'd sailed alongside with all the other smaller boats - then I remembered! As soon as I got home, I came to your blog 'cause I knew you'd have pics, etc. Thank you for the shots and the link!
(((hugs)))

How wonderful that you were able to see her go by! When I was in Victoria, BC, back in 1986, we were at the harbour where this huge ship was docked...I was told it was the Queen's ship so I'm wondering if it was that ship! I'm thinking I had taken a picture of it so will look through my box of pictures and see if I can find it and maybe the name will be on it:-) xox

How majestic is that. Even more exciting than us seeing the Royal Yacht Britannia while crossing to the Isle of Skye in 1993, although it was exciting for us Aussies.

I once got up very early to sit on a porch in a foggy morning to watch the QEII glide past Martha's Vineyard.
